POKOTABI / Hero
ヒーロー
At Hero, an izakaya in Kyoto's Fushimi Ward, enjoy an easygoing mix of small dishes—from tongue stew and menchi-katsu to simmered eggplant with spicy miso—paired with tomato chu-hi and local Fushimi sake.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Located in Yodo Ikegamicho in Kyoto's Fushimi Ward, izakaya Hero draws guests with its easygoing atmosphere, making it a comfortable spot to drop in for a drink alongside affordable small plates. While primarily set up as a counter-focused standing bar, stools are also available, offering a welcome place to rest your feet on the way home or as evening sets in.
The kitchen prepares a wide variety of dishes, ranging from hearty Western-style staples popular with regulars—such as beef tongue stew and minced meat cutlets—to an assortment of daily Japanese and Western specials. The small-plate format makes it easy to sample several items in a single visit, including simmered eggplant served with spicy miso, a classic potato salad, shiitake and daikon radish namul, japchae, fried shrimp with mayonnaise sauce, deep-fried smelt, and okonomiyaki-style grilled yam. On some days, comforting seasonal soups like crab and egg broth also appear, delivering bold, satisfying flavors at pocket-friendly prices.
The drink lineup features Kirin Ichiban Shibori draft beer and local sake from Fushimi, as well as a popular tomato chu-hi finished with fresh lemon. The bar opens at 13:00 on Sundays and from 16:00 in the evening on other operating days, serving as a reliable neighborhood stop in Yodo for casual drinks and tasty bites.
